Passover and Resurrection: God's Plan of Deliverance

Passover is one of the most powerful pictures of God's redemption throughout Scripture. It tells the story of a God who sees His people in bondage and takes the initiative to set them free.

Yet Passover is more than a historical event. It is a progressive revelation of God's plan to deliver humanity—from slavery, from sin, and ultimately into a life of purpose.

When we trace the story of Passover through the Bible, we discover that God's work of deliverance moves from the doorpost of a house to the doorway of the human heart.

The First Passover: Deliverance from Egyptian Bondage

The first Passover took place when God delivered Israel from slavery in Egypt (Exodus 12:29–42).

Before the final plague came upon Egypt, God instructed every Israelite family to sacrifice a lamb and apply its blood to the doorposts of their homes (Exodus 12:1–28).

The blood became a sign of protection and deliverance.

When God saw the blood, judgment passed over that house.

What is remarkable is that God Himself initiated this rescue. When His people were oppressed, He called Moses and sent him as a deliverer.

The first Passover reveals God's heart: He sees suffering, He hears the cries of His people, and He acts to bring freedom.

The Second Passover: Jesus, Our Deliverer from Sin

The second and greater Passover was fulfilled through Jesus Christ.

After His crucifixion, an angel of the Lord descended from heaven, rolled away the stone, and a great earthquake occurred (Matthew 28:1–10).

The resurrection of Jesus marked a new chapter in God's plan of salvation.

A. We Are Set Free from Sin

Because of Christ's sacrifice on the Cross, we are delivered from the bondage of sin and receive the gift of eternal life (Romans 5:8–9).

Just as the blood of the lamb was placed on the doorposts during the first Passover, today the blood of Jesus is applied to the hearts of those who believe.

Jesus declared:

"I am the door." (John 10:9)

Those who receive Him are rescued from the judgment of sin and welcomed into God's family.

B. We Experience New Birth

The resurrection of Jesus makes spiritual rebirth possible.

Peter describes believers as being born again into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ (1 Peter 1:3).

Jesus taught Nicodemus that unless someone is born again, they cannot see the Kingdom of God (John 3:3–10).

Salvation is more than forgiveness—it is transformation.

Through Christ, we become new creations and begin a new life empowered by the Holy Spirit.

C. We Receive Abundant Life

Jesus did not come merely to save us from something.

He came to lead us into something greater.

Jesus said:

"I have come that they may have life, and have it abundantly." (John 10:10)

The resurrection is not only proof that Jesus conquered death; it is the assurance that believers can experience God's abundant life today.

The Third Passover: Becoming Deliverers

God's plan does not end with our salvation.

Those who have been set free are called to help others experience freedom as well.

Galatians 5:13 reminds us to use our freedom to serve one another in love, while 1 Peter 4:10 calls believers to faithfully use their gifts to serve others.

Jesus stands at the door and knocks (Revelation 3:20), inviting us to open our hearts so that He can guide our lives and empower us for His purposes.

As we embrace The Year of The Great Commission, we are reminded that every believer is called to become a messenger of hope and freedom.

Millions of people remain trapped by sin, fear, hopelessness, and spiritual darkness.

God is sending His Church to reach them.

The same God who sent Moses to Israel and sent Jesus to the world now sends us to bring the message of salvation to others.

From the Doorpost to the Heart

The story of Passover is ultimately a story of God's relentless pursuit of humanity.

The blood on the doorposts pointed to the blood of Christ.

The deliverance from Egypt pointed to deliverance from sin.

And the freedom we receive today points toward a greater mission—to help others encounter the saving grace of Jesus.

May this Passover season remind us that God's work of deliverance did not stop at the doorpost.

His desire is to transform hearts and send His people into the world with the message of hope, salvation, and eternal life.
