From the very beginning, God placed humanity in the Garden of Eden—not merely to survive, but to enjoy the atmosphere, protection, and facilities of heaven on earth.
Eden was not only a place of God’s presence, but also a system where heaven’s provision flowed through partnership between God and man.
Work as a Divine Partnership
God entrusted Adam with work—not as punishment, but as partnership.
“The LORD God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it” (Genesis 2:15).
“With God we will gain the victory” (Psalm 108:13–14).
Work is God’s way of blessing His people. Through work, humanity participates in God’s creative and redemptive plan on earth.
The Principle of God’s Portion
God allowed Adam to freely enjoy every tree in the garden—with one important exception. “You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil…” (Genesis 2:9, 16–17).
The two trees symbolize God’s portion, which Scripture later reveals as:
The Tithe
The Seed (Offering)
(Malachi 3:8)
These are not human ideas, but divine principles that sustain our partnership with God.
A Warning in the Partnership
“For when you eat from it you will certainly die” (Genesis 2:17). What dies when God’s portion is taken?
The partnership with God
The covenant of blessing
Throughout Scripture, this principle is consistently honored:
Abraham gave a tithe to Melchizedek, priest of God Most High (Genesis 14:18).
Jacob vowed to give a tenth of all that God provided him (Genesis 28:20–22).
God established tithing as a commandment through Moses (Numbers 18:21–26).
Jesus affirmed tithing while emphasizing mercy and justice (Matthew 23:23).
The Promise of Obedience
“Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse…” (Malachi 3:10). When God’s people honor Him through tithes and offerings, three powerful promises are released:
1. Provision in God’s House
There will be food—both physical and spiritual—in the house of the Lord (Malachi 3:10a).
2. Open Heavens
God promises to open the windows of heaven and pour out blessings beyond measure (Malachi 3:10b).
3. Divine Protection
God rebukes the devourer and protects families, assets, and all He has entrusted to us (Malachi 3:11).
Closing Reflection
A Heaven-on-Earth Family is not sustained by human effort alone, but by faithful partnership with God. When we honor God’s portion, heaven’s facilities remain open over our lives and families.
