In this Year of the Great Commission, God is reminding us that behind every success, whether in a person’s life or in an organization, there are always two parts involved: the human part and God’s part.

Our part is preparation.

God’s part is opportunity.

We cannot control when doors open, but we can prepare ourselves so that when God opens them, we are ready. When we grow and succeed in different areas of life, it becomes easier for us to be witnesses of Christ wherever we are placed. Success is not for self-glory. It is a platform for testimony.

As a church, GBI WTC believes that God calls us not only to receive blessings but to become effective witnesses who transform communities and influence the city with Kingdom values.

What Is Our Part So That God’s Plan Can Succeed?

If this is the Year of the Great Commission, then we must take seriously the human factor. What must we prepare?

1. Preparation of Mentality and Character

Before God uses us publicly, He shapes us privately. Character is the foundation of long-term impact.

First, we need a growth mindset. Romans 12:1–2 teaches us to be transformed by the renewing of our mind. A growth mindset believes that abilities can be developed through effort, learning, and obedience to God. We do not say, “This is just who I am.” Instead, we allow the Holy Spirit to renew our thinking. When our mindset grows, our capacity to serve also grows.

Second, we must build resilience. James 1:1–4 reminds us that trials produce perseverance and maturity. The Great Commission is not a short journey. There will be rejection, delay, and challenges. Resilience enables us to stand firm and continue trusting God even when results are not immediate. Mature believers are not easily shaken.

Third, we need discipline and consistency. In 1 Corinthians 9:27, Paul speaks about disciplining himself so that he would not be disqualified. Motivation may cause us to start, but only discipline helps us continue. Many people move when they feel inspired, but a true disciple moves even when feelings fluctuate. Consistency in prayer, in serving, in learning, and in holy living prepares us for greater assignments.

Fourth, integrity and honesty are essential. James 3:2 reminds us how important self-control is, especially in what we say. Integrity builds trust. When our reputation reflects Christ, our witness becomes credible. The world listens more carefully to believers whose lives align with their words.

Mental and character preparation is not instant. It is a daily process of surrender and growth. But this is our part.

2. Preparation of Knowledge and Competence

Spiritual passion must be supported by knowledge and competence. To become effective witnesses in the marketplace, campus, business, and ministry, we need skills and understanding.

When we develop our knowledge, improve our abilities, and pursue excellence, we honor God with our potential. Competence opens influence. Influence creates opportunities to share Christ naturally and authentically.

The Great Commission is not only fulfilled from the pulpit. It is fulfilled in offices, classrooms, creative industries, digital platforms, and communities. When believers excel, people notice. And when people notice, we can point them to Jesus.

Preparation may feel hidden, but it is never wasted. God sees every effort. At the right time, He will open the right door.

Closing Reflection

This is the Year of the Great Commission. God will open opportunities, but we must prepare ourselves. Let us grow in mindset, strengthen our resilience, build discipline, guard our integrity, and sharpen our competence.

When preparation meets opportunity, destiny unfolds. And through our lives, many will encounter Christ. 🙏
