“And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.” (Matthew 24:14)
When Jesus spoke about the end times, He didn’t only mention natural signs or world conditions. He emphasized something far more important: the preaching of the Gospel of the Kingdom. This is not only about personal salvation, but also about the restoration of all creation—including cities and nations.
The Full Gospel
We often understand the Gospel only as the Gospel of Salvation—the good news that we are saved through faith in Jesus Christ (Romans 10:8-10). This is the unshakable foundation of our faith. But Scripture also reveals to us the Gospel of the Kingdom (Genesis 3:14-19).
From the moment of man’s fall in Eden, sin brought consequences that spread widely:
The serpent was cursed by God.
Man had to live in toil because the ground itself was cursed.
The earth began to produce thorns and thistles, making life full of hardship.
Isaiah 24:1-5 declares that the earth is defiled because of its inhabitants, because they have broken God’s laws and violated His covenant.
The Redemptive Work of Jesus
Praise God, the work of Jesus on the cross redeemed more than just our personal sins! Matthew 27:27-31 and Galatians 3:13-14 show us that Jesus redeemed us from the curse of sin, so that we might receive the blessing of Abraham and the promise of the Spirit.
But not only that—Jesus also redeemed the land, the cities, and the nations. The Gospel of the Kingdom declares that Jesus reigns as King over all things, and when we proclaim this truth, the atmosphere of Heaven is made manifest here on earth.
Our Calling as the Church
As believers, we are called not only to receive the Gospel but also to live it out and declare it. There are two things we must actively do:
Proclaim that Jesus has redeemed both sin and its consequences. He heals, restores, and removes the thorns from the land, our cities, and our nations.
Take concrete steps to remove the thorns in society. This means fighting poverty, addressing social problems like drugs, sexual immorality, sickness, and other challenges that afflict our communities.
In this way, we are not merely hearers of the Word, but doers of the Word—bringing visible transformation in our world.
