This week (January 19, 2025), Pastor Wiryohadi continued his series on The Year of Great Harvest with a stirring sermon centered on Perseverance. Highlighting its vital role in fulfilling God’s vision, he offered insights into what it means to persevere and how it leads to spiritual maturity, hope, and ultimately, the fulfillment of God’s promises.
What Does Perseverance Mean?
Pastor Wiryohadi began by defining perseverance as the strength to endure challenges. Drawing from the Indonesian dictionary (KBBI), he explained perseverance as a combination of diligence, hard work, and sincerity. In the context of faith, perseverance is crucial for enduring trials and remaining steadfast in God’s purpose.
James 1:2-3 reminds believers that trials test our faith, producing perseverance.
As Romans 5:4 declares, perseverance develops character and hope, leading to maturity and completeness in Christ (James 1:4).
Pastor Wiryohadi stressed that success in fulfilling God’s vision is not achieved by shortcuts but is a byproduct of perseverance. Those who endure will not only see God’s promises come to fruition but will also receive the crown of life He has promised (James 1:12).
Run the Race with Perseverance
Drawing from Hebrews 12:1-3, Pastor Wiryohadi likened perseverance to running a race. This race requires endurance, focus, and unwavering faith. He outlined five reasons why perseverance is essential in this spiritual journey:
We Have Witnesses of Faith
The “great cloud of witnesses” from Scripture and history cheers us on, eager to see us succeed in our God-given race (Hebrews 12:1).
Jesus as Our Example
Jesus endured opposition and suffering to fulfill the Father’s plan. By looking to Him, we gain strength to persevere through our own challenges (Hebrews 12:2-3).
Prayer Sustains Us
When tempted to give up, prayer becomes our anchor. Philippians 4:6-7 encourages believers to present their worries to God and receive His peace.
We Will Reap in Due Time
Quoting Galatians 6:9, Pastor Wiryohadi reminded the congregation that perseverance guarantees a harvest. “Do not grow weary in doing good, for at the proper time, you will reap a harvest if you do not give up.”
Perseverance Unlocks God’s Promises
According to Hebrews 10:36, perseverance is the key to seeing God’s promises fulfilled in our lives.
Pastor Wiryohadi’s message was a rallying cry for believers to remain steadfast in their faith and mission. Perseverance is not only essential for personal growth but also for advancing God’s Kingdom and reaping the great harvest He has promised.
As we continue through The Year of Great Harvest, let us run the race with endurance, keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus and trusting that our perseverance will yield eternal rewards.
